Once you are finished with having the windows open for the season, seal them with the shrink wrap. Seal from the frame. That keeps any drafts from the actual windows sealed out. My curtains hang from the frame so it covers the plastic. Plus it still lets light in if you need light. <br />My house is 120+ years old. Some new windows, some old. I keep the plastic on all year long in rooms where I never open the windows. I also use thermal curtains and shades to cut down on heat loss. <br />For rooms that you don't use, close the vents. No use conditioning a space you don't use. <br />As you find money, consider an energy audit. A company will come into your house and see where you are losing energy. You may have drafty windows and doors, or you may need more insulation. Some little things can add up like adding insulation covers to your exterior wall outlets. Check your energy company bills.
